Media Training

“News is what happens when things aren’t going the way they’re supposed to.” – Ronald Reagan

Richard McKeown’s Media Training session is a 6-8 hour program that equips participants to communicate effectively with and through the media. Key learnings include:

  • developing effective messages
  • framing and discussing issues
  • staying on and returning to key messages
  • conducting a successful interview
  • surviving hostile and aggressive interviews
  • remote interviews
  • on-camera appearance
  • how audiences react and form opinions
  • what to avoid in interviews
  • evolving trends in the media
  • essentials for communicating in crisis situations
  • planning and conducting a news conference

Each participant is interviewed on camera and critiqued. Media training candidates see videoclips of actual interviews and media encounters that illustrate effective interviewing techniques as well as pitfalls to avoid. Video examples include:

  • messaging
  • dressing for the interview
  • staging a news conference
  • confrontational interview situations
  • radio interviews
  • communicating in a crisis

To ensure program effectiveness and maximum hands-on experience, group size is ideally limited to up to three participants.

We also offer a media training seminar designed for larger groups and meetings.
